Board Game Brawl video review

This review gets extra props from me because it has the tagline:

The cover is a mix of Hamlet and Carrie, with ninjas. I approve.

"It's a very interesting amount of interaction. [...] I really enjoy that aspect of the game."
"I like the game a lot! [...] It's a keeper for me."
"Definitely some cool card-play there. Definitely give it a try, I think it will be worth your time!"
"I would put this one up proudly to card-drafting games in my collection like Seasons..."

De Tafel Plakt! review

De Tafel Plakt! has published a text review of Shinobi Clans here:

http://detafelplakt.skynetblogs.be/archive/2014/09/10/dood-of-levend-8279052.html

It's in Dutch, so I have to believe google translate when it says: "The game plays smoothly, is pretty exciting and thematically nicely converted." Yay!

The Game Academy video review

"Shinobi Clans: I recommend it! [...] It's a winner! Check it out!"

The review part starts at about 13:20.

Shinobi Clans named 2nd best game of Gen Con 2014 in podcast

This made my day! The new podcast episode of Rolling Dice & Taking Names asked noted board game reviewer Lance Myxter from UndeadViking Videos about his three favorite games of Gen Con 2014.

And he places Shinobi Clans at #2, and says things like:

The game that surprised the hell out of me was Shinobi Clans. [...] That's a brilliant game.

and

Shinobi Clans is an excellent, fast-playing, serpentine-drafting [game].

Mr UndeadViking also gets props from me because he can pronounce my name very accurately. Plus, he says I have wild hair, which - coming from a viking - I count as high praise.

Give it a listen at 0:54:25:

Card Sleeve Sizes

If you want to sleeve your Shinobi Clans cards, you can use standard sized card sleeves.

The helpful folks over at BoardGameGeek have compiled a list of card sleeves that fit the cards:

Shinobi Clans in The Geek Allstars podcast

This podcast episode is very important simply because W. Eric Martin of BGG boardgames news fame reminds me that he still owes me twenty euros. (Eric, I think we're good - you paid me back in dollars.)

Also, he put Shinobi Clans on #2 of his top ten games to try at Gen Con 2014 list.
And he says "Kind of reminiscent of what Brad does with Level99, but… more blood!" which I consider high praise.

Shinobi Clans in The 20 Minutes of Filler Podcast

Jason and Andy from The 20 Minutes of Filler Podcast talk about some of the excitement left over from Gen Con 2014 in their 26th episode.

One of them declares Shinobi Clans his surprise game of Gen Con, gives a great overview of the gameplay and says some really nice things about it:

I was sort of blown away!

The art is gorgeous. [...] The art sort of reminds me of Ninja Scroll but water colored.

We played two full games of it [...] right in a row. [...] It plays super-fast but there's so many mind-games going on during that game [...] There's a lot of like second-guessing all your opponents and it plays super-fast [...] I need to get my own copy of it!

The Shinobi Clans talk starts at 16:50.

Another Top Ten List Mention

Levi Baer put Shinobi Clans on #6 in his top ten list of hot games from Gen Con 2014 and writes:

"A cool little card game with lots of build up to an exciting reveal. It plays three rounds, and in the three attempts to play this game I played, we never got through all three before being interrupted. However, every time it didn’t bother us and felt like we could easily stop and be satisfied by the fun play that had occurred up to that point."

Various Games News Converage

Shut Up & Sit Down - Games News:

"Once everyone's finished, the murder stack is then resolved one after another. Or something. It sounds a bit like a hyperviolent version of Vlaada Chvátil's Sneaks and Snitches, a game we thought was predominantly ok!"

Boards and Bees - Game Buzz: GenCon 2014:

"It seems very ninja-ish in the things it’s trying to accomplish, and has some very interesting art that looks almost water-color. Will this become the ultimate ninja game?

Ludo Noticias - Shinobi Clans, el Camino el Ninja:

"Shinobi clans is a game of deduction and medium-term strategy, the fact of having to play our units and weapons covertly represents very well the 'ninja spirit'" (translated from Spanish)

BGG review by Peter Jamieson

Peter gives it a 9 out of 10, based on the ninjapunk prototype edition:
http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1129747/draft-bet-and-kill-or-protect-or-kill

GeekDad Review

This review based on the "ninjapunk" test edition has some nice photos and says:
  • There have been few really good ninja-based games … until now.
  • Shinobi Clans is a really fun strategic card game that will have you thinking (and quite probably overthinking) about every card you play.
  • It’s very good fun and worth putting on your game radar.
